Hard seltzers are the low-calorie and low carb alcoholic drinks that are causing sensation this summer.
To be honest, this is not exactly a new concept. These beverages started to appear on stores in 2013, and cans of spiked bubbly water was already quite popular in summer 2016. Since then, however, the drink trend continued to spread and now these “healthy alcoholic drinks” are reaching their peak moment.
This is due, in part, to the growing demand for healthier beverages and, in part, because hard seltzers appeal to a new kind of consumer, who’s always on the move and wants to enjoy his favorite beverage in a form as portable as a beer (a phenomenon that also led to the emergence of canned wine). Last but not least, they’re light, hydrating and refreshing, which make them perfect for summer.
More and more established companies are releasing their own versions of the drink and brand new ones who focus solely on hard seltzers are popping up as well.
If you want to taste the trend, here are 5 options to try.
Truly probably offers more flavors than any other Hard Seltzer brand on the market. The flavors are broken into three categories: Berry, Citrus, and Tropical, and include ingredients such as Colima, Lime, Pomegranate, and Sicilian Blood orange. The best thing is they don’t use sweeteners and every drinks only has 100 calories and a 5% alcohol.
2. Pura still
If you are not a fan of sparkling, Pura is for you. In fact, this is one of the very few spiked waters out there that are still and not bubbly. It’s made from purified water, malt alcohol, and fruit flavoring, and it makes you feel like you are drinking water. The brand is relatively new, since it launched in 2018.
3. White claw
This brand uses a proprietary brewing process that involves fermented sugar, and a yeast strain that took more than a year to develop. A bit of fruit juice and cane sugar are added to the final product, that is dry and refreshing. You can taste this hard seltzer in flavours such as black cherry, ruby grapefruit, raspberry, and natural lime.
This new brand uses vodka, sparkling water and real fruit juice to create their refreshing line of drinks. They are available in various summery flavors such as grapefruit, pineapple or watermelon. They have just 100 calories each and they are also gluten-free.
Sauza Agua Fuerte is one of the very few hard seltzers on the market made with tequila. Each drink contains Sauza band Silver Tequila, natural fruit essence, and absolutely no artificial sweeteners are used.
