An open-back bodysuit with strappy details.
The huge backless trend meets the bodysuit comeback in the most iconic piece of the season. 80s and 90s influences come together in the open-back bodies with spaghetti strapping and cutaways side details we are seeing everywhere this summer, providing a sensual upgrade to festival looks.
Born in the 20s, the bodysuit took off in the 1980s with the Jane Fonda athletic trend, and then it rapidly became the the new standard for comfort-craving fashion lovers. In the past decade, American Apparel brought it back to the forefront of sartorialists’ minds, and performers like Madonna, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga made it popular again.
Now it’s having another comeback. Since different kinds of labels (from high fashion to street style) are embracing the sophisticated backless look, brands are putting open back details onto their best-seller bodysuits, as well. As the trend for layering remains strong, influencers and instagrammers are wearing them with jeans, shorts, comfy trousers and denim skirts, creating the perfect festival style.
Brands like Asos, Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Nasty Gal, Forever 21, H&M and Shein are all selling backless bodysuits as a part of their collections.
Minimal style influencers and fashion icons like JOSEFINE H. J , Marie von Behrens or Christie Tyler are also embracing the backless trend in neutral palettes and clear lines, for a sophisticated and polished approach to the look.
