Jewelry pieces, belts and hair accessories featuring seashells

Trend history

Seashells continue to inspire and influence all accessories areas. After reaching its peak momentum last summer, this playfully nostalgic trend is now back with a more sophisticated approach.

Spring/Summer 2019 fashion weeks already made it clear it would happen: At Altuzarra’s runway, nearly every model wore a pair of gold shell earrings, while Etro upgraded the trend through crystal and pearl embellishment.

Seemingly a touristy-beach style, shell jewelry has evolved during the last year into an elegant yet versatile staple, capable of matching every taste and elevate every outfit.

Designers are now proposing it many different versions: we saw it in minimal versions, with necklaces, bracelets and hair accessories featuring delicate petite cowries; we saw it in neon hues and, of course, we saw it combined with pearl and gold for a more classic look.

Trend Evidences

& Other Stories partnered with Mia Larsson, a designer from Stockholm, to create a sustainable collection of jewelry pieces made from oyster shells. Larsson basically goes to restaurants, take their unwanted oyster shells, spruce them up and use them to create stunning and incredibly creative one-of-a-kind pieces.

Wald Berlin made a statement belt featuring a huge shell, and suggests customers to style it with a dress or even a blazer.

Dezso by Sara Beltrán offers a more personalized approach to the trend through amazing stone-set shells and initial carved charms.

Jennifer Behr is selling a sea-inspired hair barrette made of gold-plated metal and featuring an etched shell detail that lock in the middle. Rosantica also focuses on the hair, through a versatile shell headband reminiscent of a mermaid crown.

Emerging jewelry brand Chan Luu proposes a delicate alternative to the regular cuff bracelet with an item composed of sterling silver, a 10mm cultured pearl, and, of course, a colorful shell.
